For instance, she continuously commutes to school on her scooter, despite motor vehicles not being allowed. They have somewhat of a tension and rivalry in strength.Īlthough Kyou takes her school responsibilities very seriously, she often violates the school rules herself. When it comes to romance, Kyou is easily jealous or envious, especially around Tomoya, though towards Tomoyo moreso than Nagisa. She can be intimidating and violent at times, with a tendency to throw various books towards anyone she gets angry with, especially Tomoya or Sunohara. The older of the Fujibayashi twins and the embodiment of a responsible older sister, her unimaginable love for her sister Ryou also causes her to be highly protective of her. She also likes joking with people, even somewhat indecently at times. She was her and Tomoya's class representative during their second year. The girls in school call her "Kyou-sama" (which translates to "Miss Kyou" or "Lady Kyou" in English), make banners about her, and occasionally follow her around, exalting her. Her Tsundere personality makes her more popular with girls than with guys, a fact she finds upsetting at times. Despite her usual high energy and expressiveness, she is too shy to make a move on Tomoya Okazaki. She is the kind of person one never gets bored with, as she always has something to talk about. Kyou is a bold, aggressive girl who can be foul-mouthed, but also decisive and reliable, which makes her stand out as an older-sibling-like role model to her underclassmen. In her route, Kyou cuts her hair to make Ryou feel better. Kyou and Ryou can be distinguished by their eyes: Like Ryou, Kyou wears a ribbon-like hairpiece, but hers is on the left lock of hair, while Ryou wears it to the right. Two parts of her hair arch up, forming cat-shaped "hair arcs" that resemble the letter M, just like Ryou Fujibayashi. Even though in the anime it was portrayed as being two different festivals, in the original visual novel there is only one Founder's Festival.Īside from the main characters who are students during the Clannad storyline, other characters from the series including Misae Sagara and Yusuke Yoshino also attended Hikarizaka Private High School.Kyou is an average girl with long, straight, violet hair that reaches her waist, and striking purple eyes. During this day, stalls which sell food and other goods are opened around the school and some clubs offer shows and special displays. The school's most important festivity is the Founder's Festival, which takes place during the month of May. The school also holds many other arts and crafts clubs, although during the story the two clubs of this kind which are most heavily featured are the recently created Drama Club and the Chorus Club. Some notable clubs seem to be the soccer club, the basketball club and the rugby club. Hikarizaka Private High School offers sports scholarships, which is the main reason that Sunohara and Tomoya attend it, although both of them quit their respective clubs, and has a special dormitory reserved for these scholarship students who have come from other places of Japan. There is also a courtyard between the buildings which students hang around during lunch break. The school offers new bread every now and then, and the most popular ones become quickly sold out. Every day at lunchtime, the cafeteria becomes crowded with students trying to get to the bread counter to buy new bread buns. It also has a gym, a cafeteria with numerous vending machines and numerous courts. Fuko Ibuki and Kotomi Ichinose spend most of their time in this building. The school has at least two buildings, a new one where classes are located, and an old one destined basically to the library and other clubrooms. The school has a summer and a winter uniform, both of which can be seen at different times during the story. This color matches that of the students' indoor shoes. Green is the color for tenth graders, orange or red for eleventh graders and blue for twelfth graders. The grade they belong to can be told by the color of their badge, as noticed by Tomoya early in the story. It is a typical Japanese high school, with students ranging from 15 to 18 years of age. This is used during the series as a recurring symbol of the hardships that Tomoya and other characters (especially Nagisa) encounter. It is located at the top of a steep hill which students have to climb every morning. This is where most of the events of Clannad occur. The Hikarizaka Private High School ( 私立光坂高等学校, Shiritsu Hikarizaka Koutougakkou ?) is a fictional high school in the fictional town of Hikarizaka in Japan.
